How to take part
1. Register for Edufest
The accompanying teacher signs in with Google and registers the school contingent. Student entry is free.
2. Enter the pupil
In the School Panel, enter one pupil in the Flight Simulator Challenge. Schools may enter more than one pupil.
3. Complete pupil details
Add date of birth and class, teacher and emergency contacts, confidential health needs and the integrity declaration.
4. Fly on the day
Check in, receive the briefing and a 5-minute practice, then fly two official attempts of up to 10 minutes each.
Mission format
- 5-minute unscored practice, then two official attempts of up to 10 minutes each; the best score decides the ranking.
- Start on the runway, take off, follow a marked route through checkpoints and land on the designated runway in a light fixed-wing virtual aircraft.
- Everyone in a category flies the same mission, fixed weather, fuel, load and difficulty on uniform organiser-provided sets (screen, computer, joystick/yoke and pedals where provided).
- An attempt ends when the mission is complete, time runs out or the simulator records a crash; it is not resumed after a crash.
- At least 5 minutes' rest between attempts. Standard screens only — no VR or motion platforms. Not real pilot training or certification.
What is judged
Initial setup matches the mission · Take-off through the designated zone
Checkpoint A passed · Checkpoint B passed
Altitude within tolerance at test point · Speed within tolerance at test point
Approach through the target gate · Touchdown inside the landing zone · Touchdown within mission descent-rate limit
Stopped in finish area without crash, within time
Ten items worth 10 marks each when met (total 100). Marks already confirmed stay if time runs out or a crash occurs. Ties: landing marks of the best attempt, then the other attempt's score; otherwise places are shared. No speed or social-media bonuses.
Fly it yourself
- No autopilot, auto-landing, slew, simulation-rate changes, rewind or restart; no scripts, macros, mods or own mission files.
- No phones, personal control notes or communication devices during attempts. AI may be used for learning beforehand only.
- Teachers help with registration and welfare but may not give control instructions or hints. Officers fix technical problems only.
- A verified system failure voids the affected attempt and allows a full replay. Crashes or time-outs from pilot error get no extra attempt.
- Feel dizzy, sick or uncomfortable? Stop and tell an officer — comfort comes first. A previous complete attempt can still count.
- Provisional results are displayed first; teachers may lodge a written appeal with evidence within 15 minutes.
Awards
Champion, 1st Runner-up and 2nd Runner-up per category. Prize values and certificate eligibility will be announced officially. Results appear on the Edufest results page and count toward school points and e-certificates.
The registration closing date and link, session dates and specific location, simulator platform and version, aircraft, airport, route, weather and assistance profile, mission targets and tolerances, contact details, prize values, certificate eligibility and record retention period are pending official confirmation.
