Categories

  • Category A: age 13–15
  • Category B: age 16–17

Age is counted on 31 December 2026 and is subject to the chosen game title's age rules — guardian permission does not override a title's age limit. Open to government, aided, private and international schools in Malaysia and abroad. Teams are 5 players plus up to 1 substitute from the same school and category, with one accompanying teacher. Schools may enter more than one team, subject to quota.

How to take part

  1. 1. Register for Edufest

The accompanying teacher signs in with Google and registers the school contingent. Student entry is free.

  2. 2. Form a team

In the School Panel, enter 5 players and up to 1 substitute from the same school and category as one team. Each student joins one team only.

  3. 3. Complete team details

Choose the captain, list in-game player IDs (never passwords), add teacher and guardian emergency contacts, private access needs and the integrity declarations.

  4. 4. Play on the day

Check in on schedule, pass identity, device and connection checks, then play best-of-three knockout series — the first team to win 2 games advances.

Match format

  • 5-versus-5 knockout run separately for each category after a draw; byes are recorded when numbers are uneven. Both semi-final losers share Third Place.
  • Every series is best of three (BO3); the third game is played only if needed. Side or first pick is drawn, then alternates.
  • Five active players are required. Registered substitutes swap in only between games, with referee approval.
  • Teams are called twice within 10 minutes; fewer than five eligible players after that may be recorded as a walkover.
  • Game title, mode, version, platform, server, maps and organiser devices are still to be confirmed and will be published before registration opens.

In-game points or objectives are never added across games. Minor breaches get a written warning; repeated breaches may lose a game and deliberate cheating may lead to disqualification after evidence is reviewed. Captains or teachers may request a review within 10 minutes of a result. This is an EDUFEST school format and claims no sponsorship or endorsement by any game publisher.

Safety & integrity

  • No cheat software, macros, scripts, emulators, deliberate bug exploits, collusion or looking at opponents' screens or the broadcast.
  • AI and videos may help with training before the event when declared; AI help, outside communication and live coaching are not allowed during play. Teachers and substitutes do not coach mid-game.
  • Never share passwords with staff or opponents, and log out after each session. No taunts, abuse, harassment or betting.
  • Minimum 10-minute rest between series. Food and drink stay away from devices; players may stop if unwell.
  • Photos or videos for promotion need separate media consent; declining does not affect eligibility.

Awards

Champion, Runner-up and Third Place are proposed for each category.
